For my little sister’s Birthday I decided to paint a custom pair of Vans. Of course I waited until the last minute and started them the evening before her birthday party. I hadn’t really thought of anything in particular to paint so my girlfriend suggested that I put a sun from one of my paintings on the shoes. That seemed like a good idea so I ran with it.
I start by making a rough sketch in pencil on the shoes. It might be a good idea to tape off any areas you don’t want painted if you are going to try this yourself. Once I have the sketch looking pretty good I’ll start putting in all of the color. I use mostly Uni Posca Paint Pens and Sharpie Paint Pens. For some of the black outlining I did end up using a black fabric pen.
After about 8 hours I had these shoes painted and clear coated ready to go.
